Preschool Curriculum for February

Weekly Themes

Ground Transportation - January 30 -February 3

Children will discuss the different ways they go to school and home, whether by van or car. They will also learn about the big vehicles, such as, fire trucks, ambulances and trains. Numbers and letters will be practiced through art and song.

Valentine's Day - February 6 - 10

Toddlers can make Valentines too, using those little hands and fingers with the teacher's help. Pre-school classes continue to learn a letter and number of the week. Collages will be made using the Valentine's Day theme and songs will be sung.Writing and art projects are stressed to help develop fine motor skills.

Farm Animals - February 13 - 17

Tuesday is Valentine's Day! Last week's projects are displayed throughout the building in preparation for the party that day. The children will exchange valentines and enjoy treats. The remainder of the week will focus on farm life and animals. "Old MacDonald", a favorite song, will be learned. Drawing of chickens, a grazing cow and painting barns will help them understand where farm animals live.

Animals Pets - February 20 - 24

The children will discuss pets they have or would like to own, learning about the care of pets. Discussions will be held as to proper handling of animals and how the cold Colorado air can affect them. They will learn that some pets are only indoor animals. What fun it is to draw and color a special animal! Singing, practicing numbers and letters continue this week.

Jungle & Zoo Animals - February 27 - March 2

The learning about animals continues. Marching and moving like a giraffe or an elephant to music makes for lively times. Some students will make lion masks while others paint monkeys swinging in trees. The children will count and write numbers of various animals in a zoo.

The month will be filled with many educational experiences. All classes will be presented with letters and numbers weekly through songs, games and music. Socialization is stressed through play and creativity with fellow classmates.
Preschool Journaling

Journal writing is an innovative approach to building pre-literacy skills. Creating pictures and dictating stories to the teacher to place in a child's journal will allow parents to observe the progress that is being made throughout the year.

Carefree stresses treating each person with respect and kindness. Playing in group situations and learning to share help to develop these skills.
